The Green Moon Festival is a celebration to reveal a way of life and celebrate it's own Afro-Caribbean people. Despite having a recent origin, the festival presents features that tell the history of these Islands. The complete disappearance of the indigenous and the colonization by the British who brought Africans to labor on large plantations, are manifested today in San Andrés culture The Green Moon Festival is a celebration to reveal a way of life and celebrate it's own Afro-Caribbean people. Despite having a recent origin, the festival presents features that tell the history of these Islands. The complete disappearance of the indigenous and the colonization by the British who brought Africans to labor on large plantations, are manifested today in San Andrés culture. The festival begins with an exciting way that runs through the main thoroughfares of San Andrés to the beat of martial drums that mark the compass, used by the hosts of the large percussion band to develop original choreography. The rhythms are accompanied by military marching steps suggested by drum keys, which vary according to the leader that leads to youth marching band. These leaders establish a sort of competition with each other when, being in front of the band, rhythmic markings indicate that the whole must interpret and move without losing contact with the preceding rhythm.

By celebrating this important date, islanders continue to demonstrate once again its cultural roots, strengthening their own cultural traditions and typical of this island territory, leaving a legacy of values and principles for the future inhabitants of this beautiful natural paradise. International Theater Festival "Ethnic Roots:




This activity is related to the preservation and


promotion of recreational and artistic activities among youth and adults of the Department, thus having the opportunity to exchange experiences and share the stage with groups from other regions of Colombia and the world.
That was how the Navy through the Specific Command of San Andres and Providencia with its components Naval and Marine Corps, Air Group of the Caribbean, the National Police and schools on the island, marched through the main streets of the sector "Loma" in tribute to that 12 October 1492, when at two o'clock in the morning, after 72 days of sailing Christopher Columbus and his expedition sighted land. By celebrating this important date, islanders continue to demonstrate once again its cultural roots, strengthening their own cultural traditions and typical of this island territory, leaving a legacy of values and principles for the future inhabitants of this beautiful natural paradise. CARNIVAL OF COCO


It falls in the month of November 27 to 30, marks the birthday of St. Andrew and carry out a reign of Coco, a contest in which several countries participate in the Atlantic Coast and neighboring islands.
